This route follows minor public roads through the townlands including Cill Rialaig to Bolus. The people of Bolus are noted in the area as being a generous type of people, bourne out in the sean fhocal or proverb “Níor chuaigh éinne go Bólas riamh gan dóchas rud d’fháil ann” – no one ever went to Bolus without hope of being provided for.
Departing Ballinskelligs Beach, turn left at Castle Cross. The road is direct and offers a wealth of views including Horse Island, and Ballinskelligs Castle, while also incorporating sites of historic interest including the Old Abbey.
Having passed by the Abbey take the next turn right. As you turn, in the distance you will see the ruins of the old coast guard station, the newly refurbished pier and the new inshore rescue headquarters, each an indicator of the importance of the sea to this coastal community.
At the top of this road take a left and continue through the townlands of Boolakeel and Kildreelig. At Kildreelig a number of houses have been refurbished and are used as an artist retreat throughout the year. A visit to Siopa Chill Rialaig in Dungegan to see the work of these artists is well worth while. On reaching Bolus you need to retrace you steps to return to Ballinskelligs Beach.
