Ballinskelligs, Beach & Seaside Resort, Kerry

Ballinskelligs is renowned for its miles of golden beaches (Blue Flag Award) and turquoise water. For sports lovers, Ballinskelligs, just off the Ring of Kerry, is an ideal location for your holiday, offering world class water sports from windsurfing to sea angling. It is also an important departure point for boat trips to the Skelligs and for diving trips. Horse Riding in Ballinskelligs is very popular allowing you to experience the thrill of galloping along the sandy beach or go trekking in the mountains that surround the village.

The Blue Flag Beach in Ballinskelligs, where the 16th Century Castle of the McCarthy Mór was built to protect the bay from pirates, is a few minutes walk from Dungegan and is spectacular in fine weather but also makes for a beautiful setting for walking or some quiet thought on a blustery day. The village of Dungegan is typical of most rural Irish villages. Village life is centred on the local shops and pubs in the evenings, where you can enjoy traditional Irish music and dancing.

The Ballinskelligs area has its own Irish College, where children come in summer to learn the Irish Language. The area has a unique history and culture and was the mainland connection for the monks that lived on Skellig Michael.
