Eisc na mBroc is a cosy, three bedroom, garden-cottage home owner-occupied from October through May and rented out from mid-June through to the end of October. It is located in South West Ireland, five minutes walk from the Village of Caherdaniel overlooking the gorgeous Derrynane Bay and National Park …”one of the most beautiful places in Ireland”

Eisc na mBroc sits on the side of leafy hill just off the Ring of Kerry Road facing Derrynane Bay, where the mouth of the Kenmare River empties into the Atlantic Ocean. After that, there is nothing between us and the coast of Newfoundland, Canada. The property is located at the head of the Bay with the “mountainy” Lamb’s Head road down one side of the Bay and the forested Derrynane road to the strand, with the Derrynane National Park/bird sanctuary and the Lord Dunraven Estate, on the other.

Our home is a secluded garden property on four levels with many varieties of rhododendron interspersed with other flowering shrubs and trees that include pine, ornamental cherry, apple, pear and …yes, miniature palms (like Cornwall in the U.K., we are situated in the path of the warm gulf stream..thus the palms).

• Eisc na mBroc is fully furnished in antique Irish pine with local and national Irish art and artifacts on the walls.
• It has three full bedrooms (two double beds + one twin bedroom) plus a small fourth room with a single bed and sliding trundle-bed beneath.
• One double-bedded room has an adjoining office area. 
• Bed coverings, sheets and towels are included.
• There is a comfortable front room with couches and a large window overlooking the gardens and a pine-surrounded working fireplace.
• While there is no television set (no cable), there is an AM/FM/CD stereo.
• The pine, open kitchen/dining area is fully equipped and has three appliances – a dishwasher, an electric new double stove with convection, and a new five burner gas hob.
• There is a second fireplace in the kitchen that we call “the bomb”….in reality, it is a local invention in which an old, large, round, iron fishing buoy has been converted into a wonderful closed firebox (lovely to light on a cool morning).
• Behind the kitchen is a fully functioning utility/conservatory that contains a second washing-up area, a deep freezer plus a washer/dryer and access to the back garden and barbeque.
• There is one bathroom with a deep tub and separate shower enclosure.
• Plus, in the main double bedroom, there is a small sink and hidden toilet.

The Beach

Eisc na mBroc and the Caherdaniel area boasts a two mile long, white sand strand (beach) with the Derrynane Watersports Centre (small sail boats, sail-boarding, water-skiing and other small craft) that caters to all visitors. The strand is also enjoyed by fisherfolk interested in sea angling. Lake angling is only 15 minutes away with gullies (guides), boats and equipment available for rental. Diving and other extreme water and land sports are also available through-Activity Ireland located right in Caherdaniel Village.

Golf

There are many fine and challenging golf facilities, some within less than 20 minutes from Caherdaniel, the famous of which is the championship links course -Waterville Golf Club and the short course at Parknasilla. Within 45 minutes there at least six more anchored by the Kenmare Golf Club and a new one just outside Waterville town.

Hill Walking/Climbing/Mountainering

Caherdaniel is a centre for hill walking as it sits in the middle of “The Kerry Way”, a regional government initiative that features walks of varying lengths and difficulties olong the marvelous ridges and valleys of South West Kerry. More adventurous climbers can attack the highest mountain in Ireland, the 3414 foot “Carrauntoohil”, which is only a little over an hour away in the high MacGillycuddy Reeks..

Horse Riding

A year-round horse riding at the Eagle Rock EquestrianC is locate just down the hill, within a three minute walk of Eisc na mBroc, and each session includes a dream-like, “out of this world” trot across the sands of Derrynane strand.

Historic Sites

When you walk the local hills, dales, paths, fields and roadways you are walking among the spirits of the bronze-age and a centre of Celtic history going as far back as the 8th Century. Historic sites abound-ancient ogham stones, copper mines from 200 B.C., standing stones, Holy wells and both restored and original ring fortifications (Staigue Fort is just a few miles down the road).

If the weather permits, a must will be a boat trip out to Skellig Michael (a rock 5 miles off the coast) and a steep 600 foot walk up to this excellently restored 6th century monastic settlement with it’s terraced gardens, oratory and Celtic beehive huts,,,,“…the farthest outpost of ancient Christianity in Europe”. This day-long journey has been likened by many as a uniquely personal spiritual reawakening,

Derrynane House, located near the strand is the ancestral home of Daniel O’Connell, the18th century great Catholic “Liberator” and is open to visitors throughout the summer season. During a visit, one must not miss the audio-visual presentation, the huge, restored, original victory carriage, and the glorious gardens surrounding the house.
