Water Sports & Water-based Activities

The long indented coastline of the Southern Ring of Kerry has allowed the development of many water sport activities. Many of these centres are in beautiful locations where mountains and sea meet, along spectacular coastlines. In short, there are plenty of ways to have fun on the water – explore the caves along the coast by sea kayak, swim in one of the many blue flag beaches, dive in the pristine waters around the coast, experience windsurfing on the open seas, the list is endless……

There are great beaches for surfing throughout the region; St. Finan’s Bay and Waterville are favourites. St. Finan’s bay has powerful waves that are still relatively unknown to the surfing world, but some of these beaches have dangerous currents, so be cautious.

Cahersiveen has a superb yachting marina and Harbour. The Marina has 93 fully serviced berths. Other mooring facilities on buoys are available along the coastline where no marina facilities exist. The moorings are located at Kells, Knightstown, Portmagee, Derrynane and Sneem. The main sailing centres in the region are Valentia Harbour, Derrynane and Cahersiveen.
